East Timor protestors backed by Catholic
Church demand government to step down
Several thousand demonstrators backed by the Catholic Church are continuing
to confront the Government. President Francisco Guterres-Lu Olo said in a
communique the Government rejected the demonstration organised by the church
hierarchy. Catholic leaders have taken an increasingly militant stand
against the Government since it withdrew support for religious instruction

alert against Muslim militants' bomb plot
Soldiers and police will patrol Philippine malls, churches and other crowded
places this week to thwart reported bombing plots by Muslim militants during

 Indonesia sends fighter jets and warships
to Malaysian border as tensions rise
JAKARTA-- Indonesia on Wednesday urged Malaysia to cease "aggressive" claims
and negotiate a territorial dispute that has seen warships and fighter jets
deployed to oil-rich waters off the coast of Borneo. A dispute over the
ownership of Sipadan and Ligitan island ended in December 2002 with an
International Court of Justice ruling that the islands belong to
